2016 Adult Sailing School
NEW this year! We are expanding our offering and providing more ways for you to learn how to sail. Courses are available for MYC members and non-members. Gather your friends and family and take a course together.
Beginners Fore Sail is an opportunity for those interested in learning to sail. This course gives interested students the opportunity to spend 2 hours on Lake Michigan learning the basics – sailing safety, how a boat moves, positions of sail, parts of a boat, perhaps even learning to tie a knot or two…
Students may choose 1 or more of the dates listed below; each course is $75 for 2 hours.
Course Dates: May 5, 13, 17, and 26

Basic Keelboat 101 is demonstrated ability to skipper a keelboat of approximately 20 to 27 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.
We are offering weekend and week day course options. Dates for May and June listed below; July – September available online.
Course Dates: May 28-29; June 7,9-10; June 25-26
Time: 8:30am – 2:30pm (each day, weekend course); 5-9pm (each day, week day course)
Course Investment: $420 per student
Racing 101 is an opportunity for individuals interested in learning how to race or improve their racing knowledge. Individuals will learn what an NOR and SI is, learn about and participate in race committee, and compete in a few Wednesday night races. This course is taught in combination of classroom and active participation. The goal of this course is to create competent crew and sailors. This course is an 8-week course; course dates are listed below.
Course Dates: May 18, 25; June 8, 15, 22, 29; July 13, 20 / No course on June 1 or July 6
Time: 5 – 9pm
