2020 Spring Schedule:
Spring in on the way and nothing fills the time like getting prepared for summer and upgrading your boating knowledge during the offseason. Our next rounds of Captains classes begin Wednesday, March 25th. Join a few of your fellow members and marina neighbors in this session. If you’re wondering how you can earn your license or what the process is to obtain such a distinguished and honorable designation, give me a call or send an email. 
 
USCG Captains License (OUPV/Six-Pack) – Begins March 25th 
The USCG-Approved OUPV Captains License for Inland, Great Lakes & Near Coastal lets you take 6 passengers for-hire, plus crew, on your vessel. It is designed specifically for Captains working and boating on either the Inland, Great Lakes or Near Coastal waters, and focuses on what you need to boat on these waters.

Upgrade to Master Captain – Begins April 17th
Do you want to upgrade to a Master Captain? A Master’s License is the highest-level license and is required if you operate inspected vessels. Inspected vessels can carry more than 6 passengers. This license allows you to operate both inspected vessels (such as inland ferry boats, harbor tours boats, water taxi or dive boat) and uninspected vessels (less than six passengers). This is an add-on course to the OUPV class.
When:
• Friday April 17th - 5:00pm - 9:00pm
• Saturday April 18th - 8:00am – 5:00pm
• Sunday April 19th - 8:00am – 5:00pm
 
Course investment is $335.00 Upgrade to Master Captain

FCC MROP - Master Maritime Communications – Begins May 2nd
The FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit (MROP) course is for Captains and recreational mariners. This course is beneficial to not only your safety, but when securing employment in the maritime industry, traveling via boat to foreign ports of call, and large vessels over 300 gross tons on the Great Lakes, and vessels using MF/HF or SSB radios. Knowing how to reach help with digital select calling (DSC) can help you protect your investment, and ensure the security of your family and passengers.
 
When:
• Saturday May 2nd - 8:00am – 1:00pm

The sailing season has arrived and this year is the right time to expand your sailing knowledge and challenge your skills. From beginner to advanced sailing, pick your path to success and sign up today!

Beginner Sailing Classes

ASA 101 Basic Keelboat

Cost: $487.50

A perfect course to get you started sailing. We’ll provide the basic knowledge to sail a boat of 22 feet in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. You will gain knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoys, seamanship, safety, and rules to avoid collisions and hazards.

Two-Day Weekend Format

Option 1

• Sat, Aug. 24, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
• Sun, Aug. 25, 9 - 3 p.m.

Option 2

• Sat, Sept. 7, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
• Sun, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Intermediate Sailing Classes

ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising

Cost: $557.50

Sign up for this Intermediate course to break into the world of coastal cruising and learn to develop skills to safely cruise the Great Lakes as skipper and/or crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of 31 feet. Learn sailboat cruising terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety, and seamanship.

Two-Day Weekend Format

• Saturday, Junly 20, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Sunday, July 21, 30, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Advanced Sailing Class

ASA 104 – Bareboat Chartering

Cost: $582.50

This is a comprehensive cruising course for sailors with cruising experience. The course includes basic navigation, cruise planning, boat systems, and maintenance procedures. Most charter companies require a sailing resume from the Skipper and look for this internationally accepted certification when chartering a boat.

Two-Day Weekend Format

• Saturday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 11, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
